Silver Samurai Helmet Okimono

Description

An elegant and finely crafted silver okimono (display object) in the form of a samurai kabuto (helmet), dating to the Meiji period. The helmet, unsigned, is distinguished by intricate repoussé and chased silver detailing, including a prominent chrysanthemum crest and bold decorative plates, all finished with vibrant orange silk lacing evocative of samurai armor tradition. The piece sits atop a purpose-made wood stand.

This okimono is believed to have been produced as a special commemorative object, likely marking an important occasion or achievement within the Imperial Japanese Army during the Meiji era—a period noted for blending traditional motifs with modern sensibilities.
