Superbly cast in parcel-gilt bronze, the muscular warrior depicted effortlessly raising an imposing koro, his attire crisply ornamented with paulownia crests, rinpo, and delicate floral blossoms. His armor, skillfully articulated, is secured at the waist by a belt centered with an expressive oni mask. The koro itself is divided into four panels, each exquisitely decorated in iro-e takazogan with alternating scenes of formidable guardians and samurai upon a finely incised ground of scrolling leafy vines, golden blossoms, and butterflies. Inscribed to the reverse of the robe, below the waistband, within a gilt cartouche: MIYAO.

The koro features an antique lamp fitting with original brass petroleum tank, circa 1880. An electrical fitting was added around 1920 to replace the petroleum lamp, and in 2024 the electrical system was fully updated to contemporary standards, including a 220-volt cable, floor switch, and spare lampshade to ensure reliable modern use.

Founded by Miyao Eisuke, the Miyao Company of Yokohama specialized in the production of fine bronze sculpture distinguished by partial gilding, high-quality patination, and intricate inlay work. Their output included dramatic representations of samurai—both legendary and generic—as well as vases, incense burners, and chargers, each reflecting the dynamic artistry of the Meiji era.
