This Japanese wakizashi features a blade length (nagasa) of 44.8 cm with a shinogi-tsukuri shape. The blade dates back to the year 1642 (Kanei 17) and is in excellent condition. The tang (nakago) has one mekugi-ana and is signed and dated by Kunishige.

The koshirae includes an iron handle (tsuka) wrapped in light brown silk (tsuko-ito). The tsuba is made of iron, pierced with designs of pine trees and a bird with outstretched wings. The collar and cap (fuchi-kashira) are black lacquered.

The kozuka is made of shibuichi with leaves in shakudo. The kogai is shakudo, finely crafted with gold details. The saya (scabbard) is red lacquer with a metal insect motif, featuring kunigata dragon heads with gold details.

This wakizashi, dated to 1642, presents an elegant blade with detailed koshirae. It was auctioned by Galerie Koller in June 1993, previously part of the Albert Polster collection
